A screen grab from my video, showing the old wall surrounding Avila.

In August, 2001, I traveled to Spain for a week to visit Alejandro and travel around Madrid. At about the same time, I got a digital video camera. :-)

What resulted was this highly compressed Quicktime movie. (If you don't have Quicktime, it's a free download from Apple. Get it right here.) You'll be better off with a high-speed connection, too. I'm not sure how this plays over a modem (and I don't think I'd want to try!).

Once you're set up, sit back and watch 20 minutes or so of video from downtown Madrid, the walled city of Avila, the aqueduct of Segovia, the palace grounds in Aranjuez, and the various churchs and cathedrals of Toledo. If you watch long enough, you'll even get to hear Alejandro singing to the music on the radio, and watch me trying to drive a teeny, tiny little car at high rates of speed on a Spanish highway. (It drove like a riding lawnmower.)

I was only there a week, but I loved the beauty of the country and the laid back atmosphere of the Chueca District in Madrid where we stayed. Some day, once things calm down here in the States, I'm going back!

Enjoy.
